Ronald McNair was an American astronaut and physicist who is best known for his tragic death during the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. He was one of the seven crew members aboard the shuttle when it exploded shortly after launch on January 28, 1986. Before his career as an astronaut, McNair made significant contributions to science. He was a highly skilled physicist, earning a Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His work focused on lasers and the study of molecules, and he became known for his groundbreaking research in the field of physics.

McNair's story is one of exceptional intellect, courage, and dedication to advancing human knowledge through science and exploration. He continues to inspire others to start their journey.

The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ McNair Scholars Program’s mission is to empower first-generation, income-eligible, and historically underrepresented students to prepare for research-based doctoral studies. Through research experiences, academic support, and professional development, we equip scholars with the tools, confidence, and resources needed to excel in graduate education and beyond.
