Fitness Classes

We offer in-person fitness classes at the Â鶹´«Ã½ Student Recreation & Well-Being Center and Waitzer Hall Wellness Center.ÌýClasses are FREE for all Recreation & Wellness members! See the membership page for more information on starting a membership if you are not currently a member. Certified instructors provide a variety of group exercise classes for all fitness levels! People of all backgrounds and fitness levels make up our group exercise community. Each class and instructor value inclusion to help motivate you to reach your personal goals.

Mighty Monarch Fitness Club!

The more group fitness classes you attend, the more stickers you earn! Earn a "pie sliced" sticker each time you reach 10, 20, 30, and 40 classes to complete the full design. Earn a full-sized "50+ Class" sticker upon attending 50 fitness classes this semester!

Registration

Register through the or online via the . Registration opens 7 days ahead of the class time. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the class. You can also cancel your registration on the Rec Well Portal.

Group Fitness Policies

Late Policy

If a fitness class is full and you do not arrive at least 3 minutes prior to the class start time, your spot will be forfeited.

No-Show Policy

Fitness classes have a finite number of spots available. To be fair to all participants, if you do not cancel and do not show up to a class, you are considered a "no-show" participant. If you no-show three times in one semester, you will lose your online program registration privileges for a week.

Cancel Registration

Can't make a class you registered for? Open your spot for someone else by canceling your registration! It's easy to do:

From the Â鶹´«Ã½ Rec Well App:

  • Visit the "My Profile" icon
  • Sign into your account if prompted
  • ScrollÌýupÌýand click the dropdown menu that says "Profile"Ìý
  • Select "Program Registrations"
  • ScrollÌýdownÌýto find the upcoming class you wish to cancel
  • Click the three dots to the right of that class
  • Click "Cancel Registration"

  • Go to recwellportal.odu.edu
  • In the top right corner, click "Sign In"
  • In the top right corner, click on your username and click "Profile"
  • In the left menu, click "Program Registrations"
  • Find the upcoming class you wish to cancel

Class Descriptions

Cardio

Strike, punch, and kick your way to greater cardio fitness! This class is packed with real kickboxing moves, bodyweight exercises, and some of the best music. You'll leave every class sweaty and ready to conquer anything!

Strength & Conditioning

This 30-minute workout will torch your core...and more! Our instructor will guide you through a strength and conditioning class using a variety of methods and tools to challenge all fitness levels.

Cardio

Cycling is a fun, high energy cardio workout! This class can combine any variety of endurance, strength, intervals, and recovery. Your instructor will use uplifting music and imagery to guide you through class. You will always decide if and when to challenge yourself throughout the ride. Open to all fitness levels!

Mind & Body

Slow and steady yoga is perfect for those interested in establishing perfect balance between strength and flexibility. You will use your breath and awareness to create harmony in your body and tap into your true potential of what you are capable of. Great for beginners and even the most advanced yogi. All levels are welcome!

Cardio

Hot Girl Walks are more than a workout: they’re a chance to make connections, enjoy the fresh air, and get your steps in! Participants are encouraged to arrive solo and follow the 3 ground rules: 1) Introduce yourself to two new people at each walk, 2) Be warm and welcoming to the newbies! 3) Ladies only!

MixxedFit© is a people-inspired dance fitness program. It is a mix of explosive dancing and body weight exercises to help you tone and sculpt your way through each song. You will hear multiple genres of music from hip hop, pop, rock, reggae, and everything in between, making the class fly by. During this 60 min class, you will experience a workout that is not only easy to follow but makes fitness FUN.

Mind & Body

Pilates is a core class designed to train strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture. The focus is on muscles of the core and those that attach to the spine, front and back - called the "Powerhouse" in Pilates.

Power yoga is a dynamic and more physically demanding form of yoga that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and stamina through a vigorous flow of poses. It allows for more variation in sequences and prioritizes a fitness-oriented approach.

Stretch & Restore is a rejuvenating fitness class designed to improve flexibility, release tension, and promote relaxation. Through a blend of gentle stretches and restorative movements, this class helps reduce stress, enhance mobility, and support recovery. Perfect for all fitness levels, it’s an ideal way to unwind and recharge your body and mind.

Strength & Conditioning

Total Body Strength is a full-body workout that uses dumbbells, kettlebells, exercise balls, and other equipment. Using creative muscle-toning exercises, each class will target the upper body, lower body, and core to deliver a well-rounded workout.

WERQ is a wildly addictive cardio dance workout based on pop and hip hop music and fresh dance fitness moves. The signature WERQ® warm-up previews the dance steps used in class and the signature WERQ™ cool-down includes balance and yoga inspired poses

Mind & Body

Yin yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga that focuses on the body's connective tissues. Join us for a 1-hour calming yoga practice that will challenge you in new ways as you hold postures for extended periods of time to work deep into your muscles and fascia

Mind & Body

Yoga Flow is a vinyasa style yoga class that emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, coordinated with and guided by deliberate breath. There is a heightened focus on linking conscious breath with mindful fluid movement. Expect a fully balanced class of forward bending, twists, backbends with opportunity for inversions. All levels are welcome to join!

Cardio & Dance

Zumba is a fun, high-energy workout that combines Latin dance moves with upbeat music. You'll be having way too much fun to realize you're working out! Please note this class takes place in Waitzer Hall, on the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Â鶹´«Ã½ campus
