Mission

The Coalition of Black Faculty and Administrators (The Coalition) supports a culture of inclusion, equity, and advocacy for the advancement and success of Â鶹´«Ã½'s Black community. The Coalition provides networking and mentorship, as well as cultural, professional, and social resources.

Vision

To be an essential resource for Â鶹´«Ã½ in its forward-focused commitment to collaborative and innovative approaches to education and research, and support recruitment, retention, and promotion of Black administrators and faculty.

General Goals

  1. Continue to monitor the recruitment and retention of Black Faculty and Administrators.
  2. Increase CBFA membership and increase the visibility of CBFA throughout the University.
  3. Develop stronger liaisons through programming and collaborations with other campus organizations and offices with similar goals and objectives.
  4. Address cultural climate concerns impacting all Black staff and students and provide solutions for positive change.
  5. Encourage a community of empowerment and support amongst all Black faculty and staff and reestablish a yearly recognition program that highlights the positive impacts of individuals in our community.

Committee Goals

THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE shall assist with opportunities to attract new membership. GOALS: Identify and create opportunities to attract new membership, for fellowship and networking among members, as well as to recognize members' accomplishments and milestones.

THE RECRUITMENT & RETENTION COMMITTEE shall identify the issues and processes related to the recruitment hiring, promotion and tenure of Black faculty and administrators. GOALS: Assist and provide recommendations to the Director of Faculty Diversity, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Human Resources, and related organizations with networking strategies for identifying Black faculty and administrative candidates; create opportunities and provide resources to better support Black administrators, faculty and staff; increase CBFA's visibility and foster positive relationships within the Black community and greater Monarch community.

THE SALARY EQUITY COMMITTEE shall be to conduct surveys and analyses in cooperation with the other campus groups (e.g. Employee Resource Groups) and offices (e.g. Institutional Equity and Diversity) to assess whether Black employees are receiving equitable pay. GOALS: Continue to inform all Black faculty and administrators who have concerns about salary inequity and to recommend changes to policies and procedures pertaining to salary setting.

THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE shall identify scholarship opportunities and be responsible for the scholarship program of this Coalition and all related activities. GOALS: Annually recognize an extraordinary Black Â鶹´«Ã½ scholar and reward the student with a scholarship.

THE ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE shall survey perceptions, recommend action and partner with University constituents to address cultural climate concerns impacting Black students, staff and faculty. It shall also help the Coalition to determine how the university is viewed by the Black community by meeting with leaders and/or conducting informal surveys. GOALS: To provide information on University events, programming, and opportunities in support of all Black faculty, staff, and students; to encourage the academic and personal successes of all Black students through mentorship, collaborations, and support initiatives.
