Beginning April 9, Hampton Roads is getting an additional area code, and everyone in the region (including here at Â鶹´«Ã½) will need to dial 10 digits when making local calls. For the most part, this means you'll dial 757 + the 7-digit phone number. Numbers that are dialed without the area code will no longer be connected.
- Calling a local business? Dial 10 digits.
- Calling a student or colleague within the 757? Dial 10 digits.
- Calling in to the office from your local cell phone? Dial 10 digits.
In addition to changing your dialing habits, you may have to reprogram speed dial buttons or update contact information in your phone, making sure all phone numbers are 10-digit numbers.
What's NOT changing:
- Your current area code and phone number will stay the same.
- Local calls remain local calls, regardless of the number of digits you now have to dial.
- Dial 9 from on-campus phones to get an outside line.
- Dial 1+ when calling long distance (1 + area code + phone number).
- Make Â鶹´«Ã½ office-to-office calls using the last 5 digits of the number (3-xxxx).
Remember, make it a 10! You can find more information from the .
