The College of Sciences at Â鶹´«Ã½ aims to support you in your research. here, we have compiled links, documents, and various resources to help you in your research. Please see the links below to the Â鶹´«Ã½ Research Foundation and the Division of Research and Economic Development if you have any institutional questions regarding your research.

Division of Research and Economic Development

The Â鶹´«Ã½ Division of Research and Economic Development is dedicated to supporting the work of faculty researchers across six colleges and numerous research centers in a wide range of funded research sponsored by federal agencies, the state and industry.

Limited Submissions & Opportunities

Some funding opportunities are "limited submissions," meaning the funder sets a limit on the number of grant proposals that can be submitted by the university. To ensure researchers do not invest time developing proposals that cannot be submitted, the Office of Research Development coordinates limited submissions. Faculty members who are interested in grant programs with limited submissions must contact the Office of Research at limitedsubmissions@odu.edu.

Grant writing tips and grant helpers

The Research Development Office of the Division of Research and Economic Development (DivRED) supports Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty researchers in a variety of ways, from grant search resources to project development, research team building and editing for extramural proposals.

Research Development Services

The Grant Development Specialists are available to provide proposal writing guidance and editing services for extramural grant funding applications – among other things. They can also help faculty members assess whether a grant opportunity is a good fit for a particular project, plan project activities, identify collaborators and community partners, and facilitate the development of large proposals.

  • Editing assistance focuses on the non-technical aspects of your proposal to ensure it:

    • Addresses all the requirements of the grant solicitation.
    • Identifies the university and its various colleges, departments and other features appropriately.
    • Presents as a readable narrative with a logical flow.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Research Foundation

The Â鶹´«Ã½ Research Foundation is s separate entity that handles pre-award grant proposal budgeting and submission as well as post award grant management.  Remember that Â鶹´«Ã½RF must be contacted at preaward@odu.edu  at least five business days before the grant proposal is due. I strongly recommend that you contact preaward well before that deadline, as soon as you know that you will be submitting a proposal.  Plan to have the full, completed proposal to Â鶹´«Ã½RF five days before the deadline in order to allow for a robust compliance check.  More information about preaward services can be found .
