The Center for Faculty Development and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment will offer an "Assignment Redesign Charrette" from 4 to 6:30 p.m. January 31, 2019, in the Library Learning Commons Conference Room. Refreshments will be provided.

A well-thought-out assignment is a powerful signal to students about what matters in your course. A charrette offers you the opportunity to have four colleagues review one of your assignments and offer valuable feedback.

"Charrette" is a term that comes from art and architecture. In the 19th century, French art students brought their work to competitions in small carts called "charrettes." Later, architects adopted the term for all-night sessions that aimed to solve design problems using a team approach. The word also is associated with equality; the point is to check egos at the door. Inside a charrette, titles do not matter; everyone works in teams. Our Assignment Redesign Charrette reflects these ideals.

All faculty are invited to the event, and the CFD extends a special invitation to adjuncts and lecturers to sign up. There are openings for 30 participants. Please mark your calendars and look for an upcoming email with RSVP information. To participate, please select an assignment you've used in one of your courses and bring it with you to the event.
