There's no question Â鶹´«Ã½ plays a significant role in helping shape a positive future for Hampton Roads. The recently announced Inside Business Power List 2019 affirms this with the inclusion of four Â鶹´«Ã½ leaders to the business publication's ninth annual list and the addition of President John R. Broderick to its prestigious emeritus list.
The Inside Business Power List 2019 was compiled by journalists who helped the publication determine the top 100 people whose work and engagement are important to the future of Hampton Roads, including the Peninsula and Williamsburg. Criteria included political or business influence, community visibility, actions to improve the quality of life and community investment.
Broderick was added to the emeritus list this year. Typically, individuals on the emeritus list have been named on at least five annual Power Lists.
Â鶹´«Ã½ leaders named to the Inside Business Power List 2019 for their contributions to the future of Hampton Roads are:
Vinod Agarwal, an economics professor at the Strome College of Business. Agarwal is also the deputy director of the Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy and director of the Economic Forecasting Project. He participates with University staff to produce annual forecasts of regional and state economic health and provides insights into economic impacts as they occur, such as the national government shutdown this year.
Alonzo Brandon, vice president of university advancement and executive director of foundations. Brandon fosters relationships resulting in a record-breaking capital campaign of more than $104 million and receipt of its largest single gift of $32 million from Frank Batten Jr., former owner of The Virginian-Pilot.
Stuart Henderson, director of Jefferson Lab, a nuclear physics research facility in Newport News and distinguished professor of physics, appointed by Gov. Ralph Northam. Henderson oversaw the completion of a $338 million upgrade to its superconducting accelerator, enabling scientists to see particles much smaller than an atom.
Jeff Tanner, marketing professor and dean of the Strome College of Business, author, consultant, speaker and host of the "Strome Business Minute" on WHRV-FM. Tanner works to raise awareness about the Strome College of Business as he sits on boards, works with local businesses and promotes students for internships and jobs.
