Â鶹´«Ã½ President John R. Broderick will deliver his 11th State of the University address at 8:00 a.m. Aug. 22 in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Broderick will review University highlights and preview upcoming initiatives in the annual event expected to draw more than 1,300 business and community leaders, as well as Old Dominion faculty and staff.

Broderick began his presidency in 2008.

In 2017, Forbes ranked Old Dominion among the top 200 "midsize employers" nationally. It's the third-largest employer in Norfolk.

Broderick oversees eight academic colleges and more than 10 economic development and research centers. He also plays a leading role in numerous partnerships with government, military and business organizations and agencies.

Ranked fourth on the Inside Business "Power List" of the most influential figures in Hampton Roads, Broderick oversees 3,500 faculty and staff and an operating budget in excess of $626 million.

During Broderick's tenure, he has increased the University's public and private funding by more than $800 million and added 150 faculty positions.

More than 50,000 students have graduated during Broderick's presidency. In 2017, Old Dominion recorded the highest graduation rate in its history.

Among the 25 new buildings completed during his decade of leadership is the Barry Art Museum - the result of the largest-ever gift in the University's history from Richard and Carolyn Barry -- opening Nov.14.

Broderick was recently elected chair of the Council of Presidents of the Southeastern Universities Research Association. He will also serve as chair of the association's executive committee.

Doors for the State of the University address open at 7:30 a.m. for registration with breakfast starting promptly at 8.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early and bring a school supply donation to benefit local students.

Reservations are limited, so anyone interested in attending should RSVP as soon as possible. To RSVP, or for more information, contact the Office of Community Engagement at rsvp@odu.edu or 757-683-5759.

A live video feed of the address will be broadcast for public viewing on the State of the University website. Follow the address, and join the conversation, on social media at #Â鶹´«Ã½SOU18.
