The Â鶹´«Ã½ Police Department was awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) in the Advanced Law Enforcement program.
This is the first national accreditation award for the Â鶹´«Ã½ Police Department.
The advanced law enforcement accreditation program administered by CALEA requires agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. Only 5% of law enforcement agencies in the United States have achieved this award.
Following a multi-year self-assessment and a meticulous remote and onsite-based assessment by CALEA, Assistant Vice President of Public Safety and Â鶹´«Ã½ Chief of Police Rhonda Harris and accreditation team members Sgt. Christopher Wood and Officer Arielle Wimbrough attended the CALEA conference in Huntsville, Ala., for a final review hearing in May.
Following the hearing before CALEA's 21-member board of commissioners, CALEA President Richard Myers and Executive Director Craig Hartley awarded Â鶹´«Ã½PD with the Advanced Law Enforcement accreditation, signifying excellence in public safety and commitment to the community
Accreditation is for four years, during which time, Â鶹´«Ã½PD must submit annual reports and participate in remote web-based assessments to demonstrate continued compliance with the standards under which it was initially accredited, following another site-based assessment in the fourth year.
