A number of connections have been built between Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Graduate Program in International Studies (GPIS) and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center. The M&S in international studies certificate can be pursued by students in several ways, with courses selected in close consultation with the M&S track coordinator. Modeling and simulation in the social sciences generally, and in international studies particularly, takes several different forms, including statistical modeling, formal modeling/game theory, simulation/agent-based modeling, geographic/spatial modeling, network analysis, and event simulation exercises.

Intelligence Analysts
Gather, analyze, or evaluate information from a variety of sources, such as law enforcement databases, surveillance, intelligence networks or geographic information systems. Use intelligence data to anticipate and prevent organized crime activities, such as terrorism.
Social Science Research Assistants
Assist social scientists in laboratory, survey, and other social science research. May help prepare findings for publication and assist in laboratory analysis, quality control, or data management.
